2022 NFL Mock Draft: Picks 5-8

5. New York Giants: Charles Cross, OT, Mississippi State

The New York Giants are in a situation with Daniel Jones where he has to prove it to new head coach Brian Daboll. Even if he doesn’t pan out, the Giants need to get the offensive line right. In this 2022 NFL Mock Draft, they get the last of the top trio at tackle. Charles Cross is a great pass protector with great footwork, mirroring rushers very well. He’s improved his anchor in 2021 and would form a great duo with Andrew Thomas.

6. Carolina Panthers: Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre Dame

The Carolina Panthers could easily select a quarterback if they believe Sam Darnold isn’t salvageable, but also could be the team to trade back to acquire some day two capital. With no trade partners here, they stay put and select the best pound-for-pound player in the draft in Notre Dame’s Kyle Hamilton.

Hamilton is a versatile safety with incredible range, ball skills, and tackling ability in space. Him and Jeremy Chinn would form a ridiculous safety duo and complete a fabulous secondary in Carolina.

7. New York Giants (via CHI): David Ojabo, EDGE, Michigan

The Giants have a chance to get two blue-chippers in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft, and they go the tools route at edge rusher with their second pick in round one. David Ojabo is still learning on the edge, but his athleticism, rush moves, and power give him a great baseline to develop into a great NFL player.

8. Atlanta Falcons: Ahmad Gardner, CB, Cincinnati

The Atlanta Falcons have a lot of directions they could go here at eight, from receiver to edge rusher or just best available. Here, they give defensive coordinator Dean Pees another ringer at corner, selecting Bearcats standout Ahmad Gardner. Gardner is extremely physical, can hang in man coverage, and can frustrate opponents at the catch point.
