Las Vegas Raiders: Jimmy Garoppolo

This is probably one of the more “out-there” guesses on this list, but it is far from impossible. The 49ers have already voiced their interest in moving Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason and the addition of Josh McDaniels in Las Vegas could throw an interesting wrinkle into the whole situation.

First, though, Derek Carr. Carr played well this past season and led the Raiders further than anyone would have thought after everything with Jon Gruden. However, McDaniels might want to bring in his guy. Carr should be a starter, but will McDaniels be content with him under center?

Josh McDaniels was part of the New England team that originally drafted Garoppolo. Garoppolo spent his first three seasons learning McDaniels’ offense and even went 2-0 over his two starts during the 2016 season.

Carr and McDaniels could work, but Garoppolo and McDaniels has a better shot. Garoppolo would be able to step right in knowing the offense and hit the ground running with McDaniels. The question would be the cost.

Both Carr and Garoppolo have one year left in their deals, so nothing would change there. The cap hit is a bit bigger for Garoppolo. It could just come down to what the trade value for Garoppolo is and what Carr would net the Raiders in return. If it’s close to even, Garoppolo might be the preferred option of the new regime in Vegas.
