NFL: Predicting the week one starting quarterback for all 32 teams
By Kyle Edmond
Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes
There might not be an easier answer when taking about quarterbacks moving forward than Patrick Mahomes. What is there to really say? He’s arguably the best quarterback in the league. He’s signed on for a long time in Kansas City. He’s invested in the Kansas City community. This is a no-brainer, and will be for the foreseeable future.
The bigger question for Kansas City is the pieces surrounding Mahomes. Travis Kelce is signed through 2025, but Tyreek Hill is only signed on for the 2022 season as of now. Even this offseason the Chiefs are going to have to make free agent decisions on Mitchell Schwartz, Orlando Brown Jr., Andrew Wylie and Tyrann Mathieu.
Mahomes is the mainstay in Kansas City and Travis Kelce is right there with him. Making the tough decisions around them for the rest of the team is what will be challenging moving forward. That duo alone can keep them in games, but to remain a Super Bowl contender the Chiefs will need to be very savvy with their cap space.
In the meantime, Mahomes should continue to dominate and be among the best quarterbacks in the league. Like greats before him, he alone makes the Chiefs a dangerous team to play.
