With picks that bookend the Carolina Panthers, the New York Giants will be able to add two key pieces to their puzzle right away for this new regime. After using their first selection on the offensive line, the Giants move to the other side of trenches and get one of the hottest names in the 2022 NFL Draft as of right now.

The Senior Bowl is around to create opportunities for players like Jermaine Johnson II. Starting his collegiate career at Independence Community College and then Georgia, Johnson transferred to Florida State for the 2021 season and blossomed. Over 12 games, Johnson had 17.5 tackles for loss along with 11.5 sacks while forcing two fumbles. The only problem was the small sample size and lack of publicity due to the quick rise.

Then came the Senior Bowl. Johnson, an alum of Netflix’s Last Chance U, shined in the spotlight and has made his draft stock soar. He was also named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year in 2021 to help his case.

The best part of Johnson’s game is that he can fit in both a 3-4 or 4-3 defense. If he’s paired with Azeez Ojulari off the edge again like they were at Georgia, the Giants could have one of their best pass rush duos in a while.
