5. New York Giants: Charles Cross, OT, Mississippi State

Pick Analysis. player. 31. 5. Scouting Report. OT. Mississippi State. Charles Cross

The New York Giants have a rare two picks within the top six selections with just one pick separating the two. This will provide a great foundation for Brian Daboll to begin building his team for the Giants. Daboll has had a ton of success in Buffalo with Josh Allen and can bring a lot with him in terms of scheme to help out the offense.

If Daboll and Kitchens want to get the most out of Daniel Jones, they need to protect him better. It was only two years ago in the 2020 NFL Draft that the Giants used the fourth overall pick on an offensive tackle, taking Andrew Thomas, and they could take another top five tackle in 2022.

There’s a chance that Thomas and Matt Skura are the only offensive lineman to return to the Giants next year. Billy Price, Will Hernandez and Nate Solder are all set to become free agents, leaving plenty of holes on the line.

Charles Cross lacks a bit of experience, declaring for the draft after his redshirt sophomore season, but the sample size has been impressive. Cross was named to the All-SEC team in each of the last two seasons and allowed just two sacks during the 2021 season. If protecting Jones is the priority, there might not be a better pick than Cross in this class for the Giants in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft.
