2022 NFL Draft: Offensive line dominates top five in 2022 NFL Mock Draft
By Kyle Edmond
31. Cincinnati Bengals: Trevor Penning, OT, Northern Iowa
Congratulations to the Cincinnati Bengals. Somehow they found a way to make it to the Super Bowl while having one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL.
I’ll admit, I was wrong about my reaction to the Ja’Marr Chase pick. I thought they needed to protect Joe Burrow, but the connection between Chase and Burrow was obviously worth the selection. Now, however, they need to protect Burrow, and it’s time in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft.
The Cincinnati Bengals allowed the third most sacks this past season. The third most and still made the Super Bowl. Only the Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens allowed more. Both Cincinnati and Baltimore here could be due to T.J. Watt and Myles Garrett twice a year each, but that’s even more reason to invest in the line.
One player that could be a late round gem in the first is Trevor Penning. Coming from Northern Iowa, he hasn’t had the exposure that other prospects have received in this round but he made up for that at the Senior Bowl. He turned heads and should continue to do so the rest of this offseason.
If he can continue to prove he can matchup with college football’s top talent, Penning might not be on the board here. If he is available, the Bengals can’t afford to say no.
