23. Kansas City Chiefs (via ARI): Garrett Wilson, WR, Ohio State

Ohio State. Garrett Wilson. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 124. WR. 23. player

This pick originally belonged to the Arizona Cardinals, but given their needs and what was left on the board they can afford to move down a handful of spots. As for the Kansas City Chiefs, they have now witnessed the difference between Tyreek Hill by himself and with a compliment. If they have the ability to move up and grab a wide receiver they should do so, as is here in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft.

On top of finding a compliment for Hill, the Chiefs need to plan for the possibility of life after Hill. With big contracts invested in Mahomes and Kelce already, re-signing Hill in a year could be difficult without financially crippling the organization. Not only is this pick a compliment plan for 2022, but a backup for the future.

We’re used to seeing Ohio State churn out cornerbacks, but it seems like they’ve shifted to the other side of the ball for a few years with Olave and Garrett Wilson, among many others on the team. Olave was first off the board for consistent play, but Wilson shouldn’t be too far behind, if not in front.

In 2021, Wilson posted 1,058 receiving yards and a total of 13 touchdowns, one coming on the ground, for Ohio State. That was also while playing on an explosive offense opposite a talented wideout. It will be the same story in Kansas City and seeing Wilson’s production at Ohio State in that spot could push them to pull the trigger on a trade up to get him.
