12. Minnesota Vikings: Derek Stingley Jr., CB, LSU

CB. Derek Stingley Jr.. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. 60. LSU. 12

The Minnesota Vikings defense struggled in 2021, specifically against the pass. They ranked 29th in passing yards allowed and 24th for passing touchdowns allowed. Minnesota needs to go defense in the first round and secondary would be the best choice. The question is who. In this 2022 NFL Mock Draft, it’s corner.

Cornerbacks are similar to quarterbacks this season where there really isn’t a sure fire option in this class. There’s strong options, but it’s hard to pinpoint the best of the bunch at this point. If there’s someone who might have an edge, it’s Derek Stingley Jr.

The problem for Stingley is that he’s had more questions come up each season at LSU. After his freshman season in 2019 he seemed like one of the best corners in college football. He logged six interceptions and added 15 passes defended over 15 games.

Then those numbers dropped in 2020. He played in seven games and failed to log an interception while having just five passes defended. Then they dropped again. This past season, Stingley played in just three games and didn’t have an interception or a pass defended.

Whoever takes Stingley is doing so based on his 2019 season and the hope that he can revive that season. There’s clear potential here, we’ve witnessed it. The problem is we haven’t consistently witnessed it and that could cause pause for any team looking at Stingley.
