5. Damone Clark, LB, LSU

Besides C.J. Mosley, the New York Jets don’t have much at the linebacker position. Blake Cashman was a favorite late-rounder from analysts when he was drafted, but there isn’t much in terms of playmaking ability on this team. The linebacker class looks good in 2022, and finding a difference maker will be important for Robert Saleh’s defense.

The Jets didn’t coach him in Mobile, but it was hard to miss what Damone Clark did. Clark was a bit off the radar at LSU in 2021, but he’s caught fire in terms of hype recently. It’s hard to stand out at the Senior Bowl for linebackers, but Clark did so in a variety of ways.

Clark has the athleticism to hang in coverage, and he showed off his transitional quickness in 1v1s, along with working easily around running backs and tight ends in pass protection drills. His instincts and quick trigger in team drills was easy to see as well, and if contact were permitted, he could’ve had a few tackles for loss.

The Jets could use Clark’s skills in coverage as well as how he plays sideline-to-sideline and keying downhill against the run. He’d be a fine addition on day two, and maybe even could be a steal on day three.
