2022 NFL Draft: 5 Senior Bowl Players The New York Jets Could Draft
3. Zion Johnson, OL, Boston College
The New York Jets aren’t anywhere near finished in terms of rebuilding their offensive line. Getting Alijah Vera-Tucker was important to help shore the left side of the line, but it’s going to be interesting if the reports around Mekhi Becton and George Fant is true. Hopefully, they end up the bookends for Wilson in 2022, but we will see.
There are still some questions along the interior, and Boston College offensive lineman Zion Johnson would be a great add. Johnson has moved around the Eagles offensive line, playing some tackle in 2020 and moving back in to his natural spot, guard, in 2021. At the Senior Bowl, Johnson even got some reps at center, and worked hard throughout the week to adjust to the position.
The term “elite” shouldn’t be thrown around lightly, but it’s hard not to tab Johnson with that label. Positional value is what’s keeping him from being a sure fire first rounder, but his traits put him close. His grip strength and anchor are fantastic, and he rarely gave up ground at left guard in 2021. His initial quicks are impressive, and he can reach block and get to the second level as good as anyone. Versatility will help his draft stock, and the Jets should definitely consider him on day two.
