Yes, the tight end group was fantastic in Mobile, and provide a plethora of options for teams in the 2022 NFL Draft. The New York Jets will likely be one of them, and they got to coach a fantastic group down in Mobile. One of those players was Colorado State’s Trey McBride.

McBride is close to the consensus TE1 for the 2022 NFL Draft, and it’s easy to see why. It starts with the production from 2021, where McBride caught 90 passes for 1,121 yards and a score, breaking out in a big, big way.

That production stems (of course) from a higher target share, but it’s how McBride won that is fascinating. He might not be the best athlete at the position, but he dominates at the catch point with his ball skills and ability to win through contact, and he uses his hands well to separate at the top of breaks.

Let’s also not forget about his demeanor as a blocker. McBride brings the finisher attitude as a blocker and can work inline from day one. The Jets could use one of their early second round picks on McBride and watch him flourish as a middle of the field and red zone option as a rookie.
