Arizona Cardinals 7-Round 2022 Mock Draft: Lockdown CB1 And More!
Round 1, 23rd Overall: Roger McCreary, CB, Auburn
Yes, the Arizona Cardinals have needs on offense, and an All-Pro edge rusher who could walk, but in a division where there are playmakers everywhere, the secondary needs to be a great one. Budda Baker does a phenomenal job at safety, and Byron Murphy has been solid in the slot. However, there are some issues on the perimeter. The Cardinals have high hopes for 2020 fourth round pick Marco Wilson, but he’s got a ways to go.
In a deep corner class, there’s no reason to avoid getting a potential top talent, especially considering the lack of depth on the roster. Arizona gets a stud here who has recently been getting more first round buzz, Auburn’s Roger McCreary.
McCreary has been downright excellent in his time in the SEC. He had some great reps against Ja’Marr Chase back in 2019, and played very well against John Metchie in the Iron Bowl in 2021, minus one rep at the end of the game. He also hung really well with Jahan Dotson in their trip to Penn State this past fall as well.
McCreary can excel in press man and makes things difficult at the line of scrimmage. He will be down at the Senior Bowl to quell some long speed concerns, but he’s well-rounded and can make an impact from day one.
