Round 1, 21st Overall: Trent McDuffie, CB, Washington

There are certainly options for the New England Patriots at the 21st pick. They could pull the Belichick special and move back, or address one of their bigger needs. Linebacker and wide receiver are both in play at this spot, but in a conference with high-powered offenses, let’s get another corner that can help out the secondary.

A lot of this stems from the philosophy and scheme that Belichick wants to run. If staying in a lot of man coverage and single high looks is something the Patriots want to keep doing, then that’s fine. They need to get J.C. Jackson back in the building, whatever it takes. That also includes looking beyond just him when it comes to trusting corners in man coverage.

Trent McDuffie would be a great add for the Patriots and fits a lot of what Belichick will want. McDuffie is a no-nonsense type of player who thrives in both man and zone coverage. He has the speed, explosion, and fluidity to stick with receivers in coverage while also positioning himself well at the catch point. McDuffie plays with a hot motor and is a great tackler who limits yards after the catch.
