Outlook

The strengths of Trey McBride far outweigh his weaknesses, and as far as tight ends go, he’s the total package. It’s rare that a player is a legitimate threat in the passing game and an excellent blocker in the running game. Those players aren’t easy to find and should result in him getting selected in the first two rounds of the 2022 NFL Draft.

As a senior and the best tight end in the country, McBride was invited to the Senior Bowl which will be played on February 5th in Mobile, Alabama. He’ll be coached by the New York Jets coaching staff, which coincidentally would be a nice landing spot for him.

Jets QB Zach Wilson could use a big, athletic pass catching tight end that he could use as a security blanket, and Jets offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur could make excellent use of a hybrid player like Trey McBride. This is because McBride would be able to block outside on the perimeter and stretch the field both vertically on seam routes and horizontally on outward-breaking pass patterns. If the Jets wanted to, they could probably utilize McBride in an H-back role at times to mix things up, as he’s shown that he likes to get downhill and attack defenders when blocking on running plays.

Because of his athleticism, blocking ability, pass catching prowess, physical nature, leadership qualities, and football intelligence, there’s a good chance that Colorado State’s Trey McBride will be the first tight end selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. And whichever team selects him will likely be satisfied with their decision.
