Dallas Cowboys 7-Round 2022 NFL Mock Draft: Improving The Defense
By Evan Bachman
Round 4, 125th Overall: Marquis Hayes, G, Oklahoma
The Dallas Cowboys have one of the best offensive lines in the league, but it never hurts to add some depth. Marquis Hayes would give them a good backup at guard.
Hayes is a three year starter for the Sooners at guard and earned second team All-Big 12 honors this past season. He was consistent as a pass protector in his time with Oklahoma as he never allowed more than 13 pressures in his three years of starting.
Round 5, 165th Overall: Cole Turner, TE, Nevada
Cole Turner has appeared in a lot of previous team mock drafts of mine and that’s because I like his fit for teams looking to add some depth at tight end.
Turner is someone who I think can carve out a role in the NFL if he’s utilized right and that is as a jump ball, contested catch type of receiver. He has good size at 6-foot-5, 240 pounds and it was something he excelled at for Nevada and he could provide that for the Dallas Cowboys.
Round 5, 174th Overall: Ty Fryfogle, WR, Indiana
Ty Fryfogle is someone whose shown some flashes of high level play, but hasn’t been consistent enough to warrant a day one or two pick. To be fair to him a lot of that is out of his control as he’s dealt with inconsistent quarterback play over his career.
In 2020 he had three huge games where he combined for 552 yards and six touchdowns. The next game however quarterback Michael Penix Jr. got injured and his production dropped off significantly.
The biggest selling point to Fryfogle’s game is his ability to win contested catches and in particular contested catches downfield. He stands at 6-foot-2 and knows how to time his jump and go up and get the ball. He would provide the Cowboys with even more depth at wide receiver.
Round 6, 202nd Overall: Ali Gaye, EDGE, LSU
Ali Gaye’s season unfortunately came to an end this year after just four games due to an injury. It’s unfortunate that he didn’t get to play a full season, however he did show enough in the 2020 season to warrant a draft pick.
He’s got a large frame at 6-foot-6, 250 pounds and he wins with his strength and power. At LSU, he proved himself as a pass rusher as he registered 38 pressures in 2020 and in four games last season he had 20 pressures. He was inconsistent in other areas that he’ll need to get better at, but ultimately if you can get to the quarterback, you have value in the NFL.
