Now that Black Monday has come and gone there are seven head coaching vacancies in the NFL. Black Monday is the first Monday after the end of the regular season where a majority of the NFL head coach hirings occur. Over the next couple of weeks, many candidates are expected to interview for these vacancies across the league.

One vacancy that had opened up much earlier in the season was the Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching job. Jacksonville fired head coach Urban Meyer only 13 games (14 weeks) into his tenure with the team. Meyer had done a lot off the field to embarrass the organization, had extremely questionable and borderline abusive coaching tactics, and failed to show progress and improvement throughout the season. Meyers’ .154 winning percentage is the second-lowest by a non-interim coach in NFL History.

That being said there are a lot of positives going for Jacksonville next season. They wrapped their season playing spoiler with an impressive win over the Indianapolis Colts that held them out of the playoffs. Jacksonville also has a lot of young potential franchise cornerstones in Trevor Lawrence, James Robinson, Travis Etienne, and Josh Allen to build around. According to Spotrac, the Jaguars have the third most available cap space in the league with $63.6 million. The team also will have the first overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft.

Who could be the next Jacksonville Jaguars head coach?

Plenty of candidates will be interested in the Jacksonville Jaguars head coaching vacancy. The most attractive part of the job has to be the opportunity to coach Trevor Lawrence. Coming out of Clemson in 2021, Lawrence was touted as the best quarterback prospect to come out of college football since Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning. Multiple times during the pre-draft process Lawrence was compared to Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning, and John Elway who are some of the most talented quarterbacks to play at any level. If a coach could get Lawrence to play anywhere near the previously mentioned players and have some success they will be shot into the elite tier of coaches.

Here are five candidates who could potentially be the next head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
