Round 2, 48th Overall: Travis Jones, DL, Connecticut

Missing out on Davis might still be fresh in the mind of Chargers fans right now, but the Los Angeles Chargers get a really good player here in the second round who can also help get this front on the right track.

As of right now, Linval Joseph, Christian Covington, and Justin Jones are all set to hit free agency this offseason. This leaves only three players positioned at defensive tackle for the Chargers next season. One of those is former first rounder Jerry Tillery, who is more of a pass rushing three-technique than anything.

Finding players to fill that area will be important if the Chargers want to be able to more soundly defend the run in 2022. He might not be super popular yet, but Connecticut’s Travis Jones will be soon in draft circles. He had 4.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss in 2021, and is a very good selection in this Chargers mock draft.

Jones has played plenty of one-technique for Connecticut, and has impressive power, pad level, and hand usage at the point of attack. He plays a violent brand of football while also staying sound in his gap responsibilities. Jones is attending the Senior Bowl and could be a big riser at the position with a strong week and would be a great fit.
