Houston Texans build around Davis Mills in 2022 7-Round NFL Mock Draft
By Pablo Rosero
Round 6, 183rd Overall: Rasheed Walker, OT, Penn State
The Houston Texans were forced to play musical chairs with their offensive lines due to injuries and COVID. Being able to land Walker late in the draft would be a low-risk, high-reward pick-up for the team.
Walker has played in 26 career games and has started 22 of them all at left tackle. The team has Larmey Tunsil manning the left tackle spot, but could throw a dart to improve the right tackle spot or just add depth at one of the most important positions.
Round 6, 202nd Overall: Troy Andersen, LB, Montana State
The Houston Texans need depth at linebacker after releasing Zach Cunningham mid-season. They had improved defensive play late in the season, so it wouldn’t be surprising if they took fliers on potential late in the draft.
Montana State linebacker Troy Anderson is a freak athlete that has been named to multiple All-Big Sky teams at multiple positions during his five-year career with the Bobcats. Anderson has a chance to rise up draft boards with a solid Pro-day.
Round 6, 211th Overall: E.J. Perry, QB, Brown
The Texans will likely not bring back Tyrod Taylor unless he understands he will be the team’s backup. If the team looks toward the draft for a backup, E.J. Perry was a former Boston College quarterback who transferred to Brown in 2019.
In 2021, Perry threw for 48 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He could likely come in as a third quarterback if the team chooses to bring another vet behind Mills or resign Taylor.
Round 7, 246th Overall: C.J. Verdell, RB, Oregon
At one point it seemed that Oregon running back C.J. Verdell would be one of the top drafted running backs in this class but after an ACL injury, his stock took a tumble. Taking Verdell as their second running back would allow him time to come back as the team would already have Spiller and Burkhead. With a team that rotates running backs, it could be a low-risk high-reward for them.
