Scouting Report. 80. 10. Pick Analysis. S. Miami (FL). Bubba Bolden. player

Round 3, 80th Overall: Bubba Bolden, S, Miami

The Houston Texans have a special player in the back end of the secondary in safety Justin Reid. Pairing him with another athletic and versatile safety through the draft makes sense. The Texans could take a chance with Miami Hurricanes safety Bubba Bolden.

During his time with the Hurricanes, Bolden was productive as a tackler and did a little bit of everything for the team. At 6-foot-3, 204 pounds, Bolden has a frame that allows him to cover running backs and tight ends.

He proved he could hold his own in coverage with six pass deflections and two interceptions in three seasons with Miami. In a league that has more and more tight ends who are high-level pass catchers, having a safety that can play well in coverage is important.

A duo of Reid and Bolden would let the Texans play around and have both rotate around the field playing multiple different spots. Having two athletic safeties gives a defensive coordinator a lot more freedom when it comes to calling blitzes and coverages.

Bolden would also contribute on special teams for the Texans giving them an important piece. The team could go other options, but if Bolden can prove to be a versatile puzzle piece then he would be something that the Texans would need.
