Houston Texans build around Davis Mills in 2022 7-Round NFL Mock Draft
By Pablo Rosero
Round 3, 68th Overall: Isaiah Spiller, RB, Texas A&M
The Houston Texans made questionable moves with their running back group this offseason when they signed Mark Ingram in free agency, Phillip Lindsay, and Rex Burkhead on a roster that already had David Johnson. While Johnson isn’t the same player he was in the past, he was the player they acquired in exchange for DeAndre Hopkins.
The team resigned Burkhead and added another year on his deal, but they will need to get younger and more dynamic at the position. Adding in-state talent Isaiah Spiller would be a solid start.
Prior to the season, Spiller was projected as the top running back in the draft. However, thanks to Michigan State’s Kenneth Walker III’s amazing season, Spiller fell down the rankings but it doesn’t mean he isn’t a good choice.
In his three seasons with the Aggies, Spiller never had under 1,100 scrimmage yards or less than seven scrimmage touchdowns in a season. That consistency is something that should stand out.
For a team with a young quarterback, they’ll need to give him young offensive talent. Adding Spiller would give the team a running back under 30 and a young dynamic playmaker that can do it both through the air and ground.
