17. Los Angeles Chargers: Nakobe Dean, LB, Georgia

What a rough ending to the season for the Los Angeles Chargers. A valiant comeback and potential tie was naught, as they fell in overtime to the Raiders for the last playoff spot. The team’s main issues were exposed all night, as they have been in their losses this season. Defending the run better needs to be overhauled.

You’d think defensive tackle is the selecting, but instead, they go linebacker in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft. Nakobe Dean is a strong run filler with great instincts and play recognition. He flies downhill to make plays, is a great blitzer, and can operate in space. His ability against the run is important for this fit.

18. New Orleans Saints: Trevor Penning, OT, Northern Iowa

Yes, wide receiver is a need for the Saints, but there’s a good chance they lose long time tackle Terron Armstead in free agency. Whoever is leading the Saints at quarterback next season needs to have a strong unit to protect him, and that’s the move in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft.

There’s a competition for OT4 in the 2022 NFL Draft, and Trevor Penning is the favorite. Penning is a strong presence as a run blocker, and his showing down in Mobile for the Senior Bowl could go a long way to help out his stock.
