Washington Football Team 2022 Mock Draft: Elite Talent Or QB Round 1?
Round 2, 40th Overall: Carson Strong, QB, Nevada
Here in the second round, the Washington Football team finds their quarterback. If teams do indeed stay patient at the position (currently four projected first rounders at QB), there will be guys with potential to be had on day two. One of those guys, depending on how the 2022 NFL Draft process goes, could be Nevada’s Carson Strong.
It all depends on how the knee situation gets resolved. There’s clearly some concern in draft and NFL circles, stemming from a procedure last year that Strong returned to play on sooner than anticipated. It didn’t seem like there was much discomfort until late in the season, and Strong had the brace removed as well.
Some questions will be answered down at the Senior Bowl, and then at the combine. If everything checks out, his stock could potentially go up. Right now, though, this is a sweet spot for Washington to draft him.
Strong has the NFL arm to threaten every level of the defense, and has perhaps the best deep ball in the draft. He generates great velocity to threaten tight windows, and thrives with good accuracy on back shoulder throws. Strong does great work pre-snap to identify what defenses will throw at him, and processes well and maneuvers the pocket post-snap.
