Round 1, 9th Overall: Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre Dame

The biggest issue that Washington Football Team fans will have with the selection is the “get your guy at QB” saying. It’s totally fine to bring it up, cause it’s true. However, in a class like this, unless you’re completely sold with a guy (Kenny Pickett wasn’t available here), it doesn’t seem worth it to pass up on a potential All-Pro talent. Kyle Hamilton can be a guy to bring this defense into special territory.

At 6’4″ and 218 pounds, Hamilton is a special athlete with elite size at the safety position. He covers ground quickly with strong play speed and has the range to erase windows on the back end of a defense. Hamilton can play in man coverage and has great route recognition skills when playing on the roof. He’s also strong as a run defender filling the alley and is a very good tackler in space. Hamilton can also be assigned to key matchups, whether it be defending an elite tight end or a productive slot.

There isn’t much Hamilton can’t do, and having him on the back end of the defense will elevate the defense as a whole. With the defensive front Washington has, combined with potential in the corner room, Hamilton is the missing piece to drive this defense back into elite territory.
