2022 NFL Draft: 5 teams that need to find a quarterback this offseason
By Kyle Edmond
Denver Broncos
Speaking of teams that have struggled to find an answer at quarterback, here’s the Denver Broncos. Denver has been battling to find a quarterback since Peyton Manning retired. The only quarterback since Manning to lead Denver in passing yards in back-to-back seasons was Trevor Siemian in 2016 and 2017, so there’s clearly a need here.
The Broncos have tried the value pick, youth route with players like Siemian, Brock Osweiler, Paxton Lynch and Drew Lock. They have tried the veteran route with Case Keenum, Joe Flacco and Teddy Bridgewater. They even mixed in Brandon Allen, Jeff Driskel, Brett Rypien and the unforgettable game of Kendall Hinton.
Given the bumps of Osweiler, Lynch and Lock, I can understand if fans don’t want to reach for another quarterback, especially in the second round like I had them do in my last mock draft post. However, what Denver hasn’t done is what could work this time around.
Of all the options Denver has tried, Lynch was the only first round selection. The Broncos could opt to try and find a quarterback through the 2022 NFL Draft. A small move up should secure a quarterback should they choose, but there’s also another option.
Given the weapons already rostered, the Broncos could try and replicate the Peyton Manning situation by trading for a star QB. Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson and others could look at Denver has a Tampa Brady-like opportunity given the weapons. The price would be high, but what does Denver have to lose at this point? They’ve tried just about everything else.
