2022 NFL Draft: 5 teams that need to find a quarterback this offseason

The NFL offseason is right around the corner and for the first time in a long time there isn’t a quarterback grabbing headlines surrounding the 2022 NFL Draft. There isn’t a clear cut top pick like Trevor Lawrence or Joe Burrow. There isn’t a committee of quarterbacks to consider like Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, Sam Darnold and more. This draft class is weak under center and that’s not a good sign for these five teams.

Every year there’s teams around the NFL who either need an upgrade at quarterback or a new player altogether. This year will be no exception, but the difference is that the options to solve that problem will be much more slim than in the past.

Kenny Pickett and Matt Corral are the best available in the draft, but are they ready to be starters at the NFL level? Even if the answer is yes, that’s only two quarterbacks for a league that has plenty more teams in need of a change.

There’s other avenues these teams could take, although they are more expensive. Rumors are swirling that Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson and other big name gunslingers could be on the move, but trades for superstars will come at a high price. There’s also free agency, but the options are not only limited, but more expensive and won’t be permanent. Players like Ryan Fitzpatrick and Teddy Bridgewater might work for a year, but the long-term solution would still be needed.

That leaves us with an offseason that could see the quarterback market soar. The price for quarterbacks in trades will be at a premium while free agents could benefit from a bidding war among multiple teams.

Whatever the avenue, these five teams need to find a way to adjust their quarterback room. What’s currently on the roster for 2022 won’t cut it. Whether it be the 2022 NFL Draft, a trade or free agency, a move under center needs to be made this coming offseason.
