The Arizona Cardinals should consider giving Rondale Moore touches akin to how the Dolphins utilize Jaylen Waddle.

It’s no secret that the Arizona Cardinals have been sputtering the last few weeks. Kliff Kingsbury has asked quarterback Kyler Murray to do a lot of heavy lifting in the offense. As the concepts get stale and defenses adjust to make things more difficult, Murray has had to play a lot of hero ball. Scrambling can only get you so far when pressure and contain work together.

The offense needs to make some changes, and the first would be getting Rondale Moore some more touches. Moore had two impressive games to start his career, catching a long touchdown in the process. The Cardinals gave him chances to make plays down the field, and he had one against the 49ers in week five.

The issue is the usage for Moore. He’s been targeted on a ton of wide receiver screens, which, while beneficial to his skill set considering Moore’s straight line speed and contact balance, haven’t been blocked well. On top of that, teams are leaving the middle of the field wide open to better defend quick passes to the perimeter like those screens.

To reach all systems go, Arizona should follow a model that the Dolphins have used with Jaylen Waddle. They rely a lot on the RPO/quick game and give Waddle chances to make plays after the catch over the middle from slot alignment. Against New Orleans Monday Night, Miami moved Waddle in motion to decipher man coverage and allow him to win 1v1. They also got him touches out of the backfield where he could win matchups after the catch.

While the Cardinals have an impressive pass-catching duo at running back, getting Rondale Moore the ball more in the backfield could unlock more in the offense. Letting him work across the middle of the field to maximize his run-after-catch skills come into play would also be beneficial. Arizona is missing their best playmaker, so why not give Moore a chance to make some plays and get the offense back on track before the postseason?
