Round 2, 45th Overall: Jermaine Johnson II, EDGE, Florida State

With the Cleveland Browns potentially saying goodbye to both Takk McKinley and Jadeveon Clowney in free agency, it will be important to find Myles Garrett some help along the defensive line. Luckily, the edge class in the 2022 NFL Draft will offer plenty of talent on day two.

It starts here with Jermaine Johnson II. Johnson transferred away from Georgia’s loaded front seven to find a place he would get a ton of snaps. He landed at Florida State and dominated in 2021, racking up 12 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss. Johnson is phenomenal defending the run and is continually growing as a pass rusher.

Round 3, 76th Overall: Cameron Thomas, DL, San Diego State

It’s a double-dip at edge in this Cleveland Browns mock draft, as they go back to the edge well once again in the third round. Playing at San Diego State might not give you the buzz of other prospects, but Cameron Thomas deserves the buzz he’s getting as analysts find their way to his tape.

Thomas lived in the backfield this season for the Aztecs. He had 20.5 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks to boot. He has a big and long frame, and has a quick get off to convert his speed and explosion to power at contact. Thomas has impressive athleticism as well, and if he indeed weights 280+ pounds, the versatility to move around a defensive line.
