Andrew Thomas has made a major improvement in year two for the New York Giants.

After a full season (heck, even after half a season) there were serious calls from fans on Andrew Thomas being a bust for the New York Giants. Being the fourth overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft comes with immense expectations, and early on living up to them was really tough.

There was a lot to clean up technically early on in the season, especially with setting vertically and his plan when contact was initiated, but there were flashes of improvement from him down the stretch to end his rookie season.

The 2021 season has been a whole different story for Thomas, even in a down year for the Giants overall. He looks extremely comfortable with vertical sets along with regular pass sets. His hand technique has vastly improved, and he’s showing off the athleticism in terms of his lateral quickness to recover and pick up stunts. He’s even caught a touchdown pass this season and before this Sunday against the Eagles, he had been credited with just one sack given up all season long.

While Thomas has only played in 11 games this season, but has faced some impressive opponents. Tampa Bay has a great duo on the edge, and Thomas plays in a division that’s notorious for strong pass rushing talent. He’s handled his work against the Saints, Broncos, Dolphins, and Rams as well.

The massive jump for Andrew Thomas is something the New York Giants should be excited about. The offensive line still needs work, and there’s serious debate about the signal-caller who will reportedly be back in 2022, but Thomas should be a stalwart at left tackle for this franchise for a long time. His jump in year two is a testament to having patience, even with a top five selection.
