Round 2, 38th Overall: Zion Johnson, OL, Boston College

The offensive line barrage continues for the New York Giants here in the second round. Will Hernandez just hasn’t found his footing in the NFL, and the hope that one of Ben Bredeson and Shane Lemieux could snag one of the spots is still a question mark.

Zion Johnson would be an excellent plug and play guard in the second round. The Boston College lineman moved back inside for the 2021 season, and he’s looked much more natural. Johnson has the NFL size to operate at guard, and has a great initial punch and anchor to handle power in pass protection. He’s also a solid mover in the run game who flashes with work to the second level.

Round 3, 69th Overall: Cameron Thomas, EDGE, San Diego State

Yes, Azeez Ojulari is doing well, and Oshane Ximines has been a good role player, but getting another impactful edge rusher would be good for the defense. They get one of the best kept secrets in the 2022 NFL Draft in Aztecs DE Cameron Thomas.

Thomas is a bigger rusher (listed between 270-280 pounds), but he has some impressive athleticism and pass rushing repertoire on the edge. He can win with speed to power and is very good at changing direction.

Round 3, 77th Overall: Isaiah Likely, TE, Coastal Carolina

The tight end position felt solved for the New York Giants after drafting Evan Engram back in 2017, but injuries and inconsistencies have been prevalent since his excellent rookie campaign. Now, as Engram hits free agency, finding a dynamic tight end in the passing game makes sense.

Isaiah Likely is a big play waiting to happen at the tight end position. He’s one of the most dynamic players in the 2022 NFL Draft, possessing the speed to threaten up the seam and to turn any catch into a big gain or a score.
