New York Giants 2022 Mock Draft: Fully Rebuilding The Offensive Line
Round 1, 6th Overall (via CHI): Charles Cross, OT, Mississippi State
The offensive line rebuild for the New York Giants starts here with their first of two first round selections, this one from the Bears in the Justin Fields trade. Andrew Thomas has played well in his second season, but it’s been a letdown across the board. Finding a bookend opposite Thomas should be a priority, and they get one in Charles Cross.
Cross has done extremely well in the SEC in 2021, and has put together some great performances against some of the best edge rushers. His battle with Arkansas EDGE Tre Williams was especially great. Cross has impressive athletic tools, and great footwork to recover. He’s added strength and power in his lower half as well.
Round 1, 7th Overall: Devin Lloyd, LB, Utah
Yes, yes, bring on all the comments for this one, ones like it’ll never happen or why draft a linebacker this early. The Giants defense has a very good unit, but it can get better with a true playmaker in the middle of the defense rather than a clean up guy.
Devin Lloyd can impact the game in a variety of ways. The converted safety has great instincts and eye discipline in coverage, and can create turnovers. He’s got impressive closing speed and a quick trigger in the run game, and can live in the backfield. Lloyd can even rush the passer effectively.
