New Orleans Saints 2022 Mock Draft: WR Room Gets Big Upgrade
Round 3, 98th Overall: Alontae Taylor, CB, Tennessee
The New Orleans Saints are projected to get a couple compensatory selections at the end of the third round, and they’re included in this mock. The Saints start by adding another corner to the mix in Tennessee’s Alontae Taylor. Yes, they drafted Paulson Adebo last season and CJ Gardner-Johnson has been an effective nickel, but more in the room is necessary.
Taylor is an intriguing name who could rise as the 2022 NFL Draft process rolls on. He’s a long, physical corner who can thrive up at the line of scrimmage in press coverage. He stays patient and physical throughout his reps, and can close from off-coverage. Taylor is also extremely physical in run support.
Round 3, 99th Overall: Zacch Pickens, DL, South Carolina
Other than David Onyemata and Malcolm Roach, the New Orleans Saints don’t have anyone signed on the interior defensive line signed past this season. In what’s expected to be a weaker class again, there might not be value until day three. Here, the Saints select South Carolina’s Zacch Pickens.
Pickens is more of a pass rushing defensive tackle that one who’s strong defending the run, but getting interior pressure is important. Pickens has a quick first step, and plays a physical brand of football. He’s strong at the point of attack to shed blocks, and has the athleticism to be a third down rusher from day one.
