5. New York Jets (via SEA): Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre Dame

It’s fitting that this pick comes via Seattle from the Jamal Adams trade, as the New York Jets will finish their rebuild of the secondary by drafting yet another elite prospect at the safety position.

Kyle Hamilton can do it all at the safety position, and it’s why he’s selected so high in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft. Hamilton has the range to cover ground on the back end, great recognition skills, and the ball skills to create turnovers. He can operate in the box with great tackling skills and can diagnose things quickly as well.

6. New York Giants (via CHI): Matt Corral, QB, Mississippi

The first quarterback comes off the board in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft as the Giants go in a new direction. There’s a decent chance that Joe Judge gets fired and general manager Dave Gettleman does too. The new regime might want a new signal-caller.

Matt Corral has improved big time in 2021, cutting down on his turnovers and operating the quick game very well. His ball placement has been good to all levels of the field, and he’s inheriting a good group of pass catchers.

7. New York Giants: Ikem Ekwonu, OL, North Carolina State

Now that the Giants have a shiny new quarterback, they need to address what has been a rough offensive line. Andrew Thomas has looked better, but other than that it’s a mess.

It’ll be interesting to see if he can move across to right tackle, but if not, Ikem Ekwonu provides versatility for the Giants. He’s a mauler in the run game and a pancake machine, but it’s his pass protection improvements that have generated attention. Whether it’s at left guard or right tackle, Ekwonu will make an early impact.

8. Atlanta Falcons: George Karlaftis, EDGE, Purdue

The Atlanta Falcons need to get better everywhere this offseason, and the 2022 NFL Draft is a good place to do so. Trading back probably makes sense, but we’ll cross that bridge when it’s necessary.

Edge rusher is a group that needs to get better, and George Karlaftis can help with that. Karlaftis is a strong rusher at the contact point, and has great hand usage to counter at contact when necessary. He’s a better athlete than given credit for and could be a factor on all three downs.
