Detroit Lions rookie receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown had a very good game and caught the game winner over the Vikings!

The Detroit Lions finally got something in the win column Sunday, beating the Minnesota Vikings 29-27. The Lions threw away a significant first half lead, and Jared Goff fumble gave the Vikings an opportunity to take the lead. With no time on the clock, Goff found rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown for the game winning score.

The Lions didn’t prioritize the receiver room in terms of heavy draft capital or free agent signings, opting for players like Tyrell Williams and Breshad Perriman. They did draft St. Brown in the fourth round out of USC, and the rookie came up big on Sunday.

St. Brown caught 10 passes for 86 yards and a touchdown, which was his first receiving touchdown of the season. He sat perfectly across the line and Goff anticipated the throwing window, hitting him between a couple defenders for the score. His 86 yards is also tops so far in his young career.

In 2021, St. Brown has 49 catches for 438 yards. He’s been a reliable true slot receiver like he was in college, operating well over the middle of the field to find space against zone coverage and separate against man-to-man. His reliable hands have been a major asset in moving the chains, and he’s done some of the dirty work as well, chipping edge rushers and then working into his route.

Amon-Ra St. Brown isn’t likely going to become a dominant receiver in the league, but his well-rounded skill set was something that would guarantee snaps and targets in (at the very least) a rotation. He’s finding his home with the Detroit Lions in the slot, and he can be a part of the rebuild moving forward as a strong WR3. It’s been a solid rookie season despite the overall struggles.
