2022 NFL Mock Draft: Giants, Broncos, Football Team All Select QBs
The latest 2022 NFL Mock Draft here at NFL Mocks again goes heavy in the trenches, but five quarterbacks also find their way into round one.
Another week has passed in the NFL and another round of chaos theory struck again. The Panthers brought back Cam Newton, and together with P.J. Walker, they stomped on the previously 8-1 Cardinals. The Lions and Steelers played a ludicrous 10 minutes of overtime to end in a tie, and Washington upset the Bucs. Defense ruled at Lambeau Field, and the Chiefs found a bit of themselves on Sunday night.
As team needs continue to take shape and the 2022 NFL Draft process nears, mock drafts will be all over the place as more and more speculation begins. It’s going to be the most wonderful time of the year for draft fans very soon.
2022 NFL Mock Draft
Quarterbacks have been the main talk of the process so far, but for the opposite reason of the 2021 draft. This group is still working itself out to find the top guy, and even though the talent isn’t top notch, demand could drive several quarterbacks into the first round.
Let’s look at a 2022 NFL Mock Draft with a move away from some consensus selections, and as quarterbacks fly off, so do the trenches and defensive backs once again. Let’s dive in!
1. Detroit Lions: Kayvon Thibodeaux, EDGE, Oregon
It was so close yet again for the Detroit Lions, who came up short of an overtime victory against Pittsburgh despite multiple chances. This team is waiting on that breakthrough, but this is a long play for the organization.
As far as this 2022 NFL Mock Draft goes, it’s going to be a pairing that makes sense over the coming months. Kayvon Thibodeaux is an excellent pass rusher who also excels at the defending the run with good explosion to power, leverage, and processing skills. He’d be an instant factor on the defense.
2. Houston Texans: Derek Stingley Jr., CB, LSU
The Houston Texans could look for a quarterback, but is there really worth one taking at this point? It’s a conversation this front office will have to have by the time the 2022 NFL Draft rolls around.
Instead here, they opt for a blue chip player with great pedigree to help out the secondary. He hasn’t had the best sophomore and junior campaigns, but Derek Stingley Jr. has the instincts, ball skills, and coverage skills to succeed right away.
3. New York Jets: Evan Neal, OT, Alabama
It’ll be interesting to see how much pull head coach Robert Saleh has in the room for the New York Jets, as his defense could use some upgrades. However, the offensive line is still a mess, and the injury to Mekhi Becton has only further highlighted this.
Evan Neal has great power at the point of attack as a run blocker, and quick feet for someone of his stature. He has experience at right tackle and could slide in opposite Becton to form a very good bookend duo.
4. Jacksonville Jaguars: Ikem Ekwonu, OL, North Carolina State
The Jacksonville Jaguars are another team that needs offensive line help, along with more weapons, to help out Trevor Lawrence. It might take running Urban Meyer out of town to get things done.
Ikem Ekwonu is having a fantastic season for the Wolfpack at left tackle. He’s a true mauler that looks to finish opponents at every turn, and is very good in space. His recovery skills as a pass protector have improved mightily this season, good enough to get a try at left tackle in the NFL.
