Arizona State RB Rachaad White is an intriguing name in the 2022 NFL Draft running back class.

The 2022 NFL Draft probably won’t be one that’s remembered for its offense. The quarterback group isn’t strong, the tackle class isn’t up to part with the last couple of seasons, and even the receiver class, despite some strong names, might not measure up. The running backs are potentially another. There aren’t any first round locks, but there are a few at the top of the rankings, including Kenneth Walker III, Isaiah Spiller, and Breece Hall.

A couple others could be in line to be drafted on day two, and it’s possible that Arizona State Sun Devis RB Rachaad White joins that group. He’s been a fun watch in late Saturday night Pac 12 play.

White transferred to Arizona State from Mt. San Antonio Junior College ahead of the 2020 season, and made his presence known last year. In four games, White ran for 420 yards and averaged 10 yards a carry, and caught eight passes for 151 yards. He’s elevating his game in 2021 as the feature back, as he’s rushed for 679 yards and 12 scores while also averaging over 3.5 catches per contest.

He pops out on film as well, and White is a three down back who is very well-rounded. He might not possesses elite agility and long speed, but he’s a strong, patient runner with improved vision in 2021. His lateral toolbox is very solid and he’s stays balanced in his cuts and keeps his shoulders square to the line of scrimmage. White possesses sufficient burst in space, and has the stamina to rip off big runs. He has no time for arm tackle attempts, as he shrugs those off and will often get through first contact unscathed.

As a receiver, White has good hands and can make things happen after the catch with good contact balance. His field vision is good in space as well, as he takes advantage of picking up yardage where he can.

The ability to be a three-down back will help Rachaad White when the 2022 NFL Draft rolls around. Providing value in the receiving game is crucial nowadays, and while the athletic numbers won’t pop off the screen, there’s enough to work with in the traits department. This isn’t to say he will necessarily challenge for the title of RB1, but what he’s doing this season cannot be ignored. Day two is certainly possible for a player of his caliber, and it will be exciting to see how he finishes down the stretch.
