Philadelphia Eagles 2022 Mock Draft: Building Around Jalen Hurts
By Evan Bachman
Round 1, 3rd Overall: Derek Stingley Jr., CB, LSU
With the Dolphins off to a 1-7 start, this selection has become more valuable than I think anyone could have imagined. Having this pick gives the Philadelphia Eagles a chance to add a blue-chip caliber prospect.
Derek Stingley Jr. certainly qualifies as a blue-chip caliber prospect as he is easily one the best players in the draft and on top of that he plays corner, which is a position that is very valuable in today’s NFL.
He possesses all the physical tools you could possibly want in a corner as he’s got great size (6-foot-2), he’s very athletic, and he moves quite fluidly. What makes him truly special as a corner however are his rare ball skills, and as a freshman at LSU he picked off six passes and broke up a total of 15, which are numbers you almost never see, especially from a freshman playing in the SEC.
Stingley Jr. had a medical procedure on his foot earlier in the season and doesn’t have a timetable for his return. While it’s unfortunate that he got injured obviously, the good news for him is that it won’t really affect his draft stock as he’s already proved himself as a high-level player.
Round 1, 8th Overall: Kingsley Enagbare, EDGE, South Carolina
The Philadelphia Eagles could already use another edge rusher and with Derek Barnett being a free agent edge rusher should be a big priority for them this offseason.
Kingsley Enagbare may not be a top ten pick in many mock drafts right now, however with how dominant he has been rushing the passer over his time at South Carolina. Earning a 93.4 pass rush grade from PFF which is the best in college football this season, he’s shown he deserves to be a sure fire first round pick and deserving of top 10-15 consideration.
Enagbare is so good as a pass rusher because he’s capable of winning in a variety of ways. He can use his strength to just throw offensive linemen out of the way, can use his quickness to bend the edge, and can use his hands with a quick hand slap.
Round 1, 9th Overall: Tyler Linderbaum, C, Iowa
With Jason Kelce getting up their in age and being a free agent at the end of the season the Philadelphia Eagles may need to find his replacement this offseason.
It’s not often that you see centers drafted in the top 15, however Tyler Linderbaum is good enough to warrant a top 15 selection. Linderbaum is a unique prospect as he was actually originally recruited as a defensive tackle at Iowa before moving to center where he has been phenomenal.
As a run blocker, he is powerful and is capable of driving defenders backward with force. As a pass protector, he is athletic, and he has the movement skills necessary to stay with quick defensive linemen.
