Cleveland Browns 2022 Mock Draft: Upgrading The Trenches
Round 5, 159th Overall: Jalen Pitre, S, Baylor
The safety room for the Cleveland Browns is interesting. Ronnie Harrison is someone that likely won’t return. Second year safety Grant Delpit has struggled a bit with recognition on the back end and tackling in space. John Johnson III has been holding the group together.
Finding a safety in the 2022 NFL Draft would be a good call, especially with such a deep group, and it happens here in this Cleveland Browns mock draft. Jalen Pitre is an intriguing defender, as he does his best work near the line of scrimmage, using his speed to run and chase and his physicality to make plays in the backfield.
Round 6, 195th Overall: Ali Gaye, EDGE, LSU
The help on the edge continues in this mock for the Browns, and they add more athleticism here in Ali Gaye. Gaye has the athleticism to challenge the angles of tackles, and he’s flashed a wicked spin move. His hand usage at contact is getting better and he could develop into a great rotational player in Cleveland.
Round 6, 221st Overall: Xavier Hutchinson, WR, Iowa State
It was difficult to make a final selection here for the Cleveland Browns, as the offense could use another running back or even a tight end if David Njoku doesn’t return after this season. But, instead, the revolution at receiver continues.
Xavier Hutchinson is someone who’s getting better every year, and he’s playing well as the top option for the Cyclones in 2021. He’s able to separate quickly as a route runner, succeed after the catch, and win in contested spots.
