2022 NFL mock draft: Malik Willis lands with Texans, Corners Fly Off
By Evan Bachman
25. Tennessee Titans: Christian Harris, LB, Alabama
With the Titans already being a little weak at linebacker and with Rashaan Evans being a free agent after the season, linebacker will be a priority for them this offseason.
Christian Harris is a very hard hitter with good speed as he closes on ball carriers quickly. He also is excellent at rushing the passer when he’s asked to as he’s nine sacks over the past two seasons.
Harris has had his struggles in coverage this season, which could hurt his draft stock a little, but for now he’s still a projected first round pick.
26. Cincinnati Bengals: Nicholas Petit-Frere, OT, Ohio State
The Bengals received some criticism last draft for not taking Penei Sewell to protect Joe Burrow, however Ja’Marr Chase has made it pretty abundantly clear that they’ve hit a home run by selecting him. With that said, the Bengals do still need to improve their offensive line.
Petit-Frere checks off a lot of the boxes of what you want to see from offensive tackle prospects. He’s a former five-star, he’s got a good combination of movement skills, hand usage, and strength, and he’s simply just produced very consistent play for a while at Ohio State. Petit-Frere has played both left and right tackle for the Buckeyes and could play either in the NFL.
27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas
With both Antonio Brown and Chris Godwin set to be free agents after the season, the Buccaneers will most likely have to replace at least one of them this offseason. So, adding Treylon Burks to this offense makes sense for them in this 2022 NFL mock draft.
Treylon Burks checks a lot of the boxes of a first round receiver. He’s a good route runner as he’s very smart and is good at finding holes in the defense and also changes his pace well when running his routes, he’s also very good in contested catch situations as he’s 6-foot-3 with good hands and body control.
Burks has recorded 713 yards and seven touchdowns this season, building a very convincing case for him to be a first round pick.
28. Detroit Lions (via LAR): Sam Howell, QB, North Carolina
The Lions will receive this selection from the Rams via the Matthew Stafford trade. They were projected to take the draft’s best player in Kayvon Thibodeaux earlier in this 2022 NFL mock draft, and now they can look to add a quarterback if they chose with this selection.
Sam Howell’s stock has gone down this season as he has had some struggles as a passer, however he’s still shown enough to be a first round pick.
Howell is a three-year starter for North Carolina and has been consistently good. One thing that I liked about Howell coming into the season was how well he threw the ball downfield, and unfortunately this season he hasn’t done that nearly as well.
He has however shown what he can do as a runner as he’s rushed for nearly 500 yards and five touchdowns and has forced 36 missed tackles this season.
