2022 NFL mock draft: Malik Willis lands with Texans, Corners Fly Off
By Evan Bachman
13. Philadelphia Eagles (via IND): Tyler Linderbaum, C, Iowa
One quick note to address about this selection is that it is via the Indianapolis Colts and that it is conditional.
As of now, Carson Wentz has played more than 75% of the Colts offensive snaps, so therefore if the draft were to happen today the pick would be conveyed and I’m writing this 2022 NFL mock draft under that context.
It’s not often that you see centers drafted in the top 15, however Tyler Linderbaum is good enough to warrant a top 15 selection. Linderbaum is a unique prospect as he was actually originally recruited as a defensive tackle at Iowa before moving to center where he has been phenomenal.
As a run blocker, he is powerful and is capable of driving defenders backward with force. As a pass protector, he is athletic, and he has the movement skills necessary to stay with quick defensive linemen.
14. Carolina Panthers: Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State
The Panthers could look to add a quarterback in this draft as while Sam Darnold hasn’t been a disaster, he hasn’t been good either. However, in this scenario with both Malik Willis and Matt Corral off the board in this 2022 NFL mock draft, I think they look to address other needs.
One of those needs would be another receiver to compliment D.J. Moore, which Chris Olave provides.
Olave is an excellent route-runner, as he’s smooth, very quick in and out of his breaks, and is capable of winning on routes to all levels of the field. Also, his hands are as dependable as it gets, as he simply just catches everything with grasp.
He is someone who could have been a first-rounder had he entered last year’s draft, however, he made the decision to come back to the Buckeyes for his senior year and will have an opportunity to really boost his draft stock.
15. New York Giants (via CHI): Ikem Ekwonu, OL, North Carolina State
This selection comes from the Chicago Bears from the Justin Fields trade in last year’s draft. With it the Giants can address arguably their biggest need, which is offensive line.
Ikem Ekwonu has been dominant this season for NC State, as he’s been dominant in run blocking and consistent in pass protection as he hasn’t allowed a sack all season. Ekwonu has played all of his snaps this season at left tackle, which he could play in the NFL, but he could also kick inside and play guard if necessary. He’s a great fit for the Giants in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft.
