Round 5, 153rd Overall: John Michael Schmitz, OL, Minnesota

The interior of the offensive line is something else that needs help, and the Chicago Bears could potentially address this need earlier. James Daniels is set to be a free agent and there’s some discourse surrounding Cody Whitehair.

John Michael Schmitz could come in right away and help out at guard or center. Schmitz is slowly gaining steam for the 2022 NFL Draft, and it’s easy to see why on tape. His initial quicks are impressive and his skills do translate to zone schemes, as he’s an effective reach blocker. He’s got a pair of strong hands and can turn defenders wide when necessary. Schmitz also brings an element of finishing to the table that will ignite the unit as a whole.

Round 6, 195th Overall: Akayleb Evans, CB, Missouri

Rounding out the Bears mock draft in round six, corner is another need that the Chicago Bears could focus on in both free agency and the draft. The corner room is very bare at the moment as the team is struggling to find someone to play opposite Jaylon Johnson.

Akayleb Evans is an intriguing name in what’s set to be an extremely deep group at the corner position. He’s listed at 6’2″ and 188 pounds, and has played well since transferring to Missouri from Tulsa. Evans has three pass breakups and an interception this season, all while facing some of the top playmakers in the country. He’s absolutely worth a look to develop into a starter.
