Round 1, 16th Overall: Jordan Davis, DL, Georgia

The reload on defense for the Kansas City Chiefs starts up front. Picking this high might not be the case a couple months down the line, but at the 16th pick, the Chiefs are in position to draft a defender with a ton of potential. The defense is moving around Jones, but having someone to anchor the middle of the defensive line would be huge.

DeMarvin Leal could make sense because of his versatility, but Jordan Davis feels like the smarter selection. Davis had an opportunity to enter last year’s draft, but opted to come back for another season at Georgia. It was clearly the right call, as his stock has seen a sharp increase to the point of becoming a shoo-in to be a first round pick.

Davis is a classic one technique who can anchor the middle of the defense. He’s a space eater who can take on double teams while freeing up linebackers to make plays downhill against the run. Davis will also give pass rushers one-on-one opportunities.

His presence is the middle will help the development of both Nick Bolton and Willie Gay, while letting Jones move around to three-technique and five-technique. His improved quickness and explosion could also boost the pass rush.
