2022 NFL Mock Draft: Matt Corral becomes the future in Atlanta
7. New York Giants: Kenyon Green, Offensive Guard, Texas A&M
Expectations were not high for the New York Giants this season. However, they are falling short of expectations for different reasons. The New York Giants team that was led by their production in trenches, especially on the defensive side of the ball, have struggled this season. Their average at a best offensive line from a season ago has regressed to one of the worst in the league. Also surprisingly the Giants defense is not playing great despite the additions they’ve made on that side of the ball. Third-year quarterback Daniel Jones looks like he could be the team’s future at quarterback after playing well the first few games and limiting his turnovers.
This offense has been limited by injuries and their atrocious offensive line. The only player along this offensive line that should have a confirmed role on this team next season is the 2020 fourth overall pick Andrew Thomas. New York’s left tackle has made a great jump from year one to year two. Unfortunately for New York, this draft class is not top-heavy at offensive tackle. After Evan Neal, there is a massive decline in talent at the tackle position. However, this class is deep with interior offensive linemen.
One of the top interior offensive linemen in this year’s class is Texas A&M tackle Kenyon Green. He has been the Aggies’ starting right tackle this season after playing at right guard during his freshman year and left guard last season. That versatility could benefit the Giants who have needs at both guard and right tackle.
New York has not been able to find a steady left guard this season. Will Hernandez, who is solid, not great, is a free agent after this year. On top of that Nate Solder has been brutal at right tackle and Matt Peart needs to prove that he is a starter instead of a swing tackle.
New York could take Green early in the 2022 NFL Draft and figure would how to align their offensive line afterward. He could fill one of the multiple voids across their offensive line that needs a lot of work.
