24. Detroit Lions (via Los Angeles Rams): Treylon Burks, Wide Receiver, Arkansas

The Detroit Lions received a package including Jared Goff and the Los Angeles Rams’ first-round picks over the next two seasons in the trade that sent Matthew Stafford to Los Angeles. Even though the Lions’ defense is a mess they may want to address their offense with their second first-round pick as well and wait for the second round to take a defensive player.

A lot of people were confused on why the Lions let Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones Jr., and Danny Amendola walk in free agency. Many thought they would take one of the big three receivers in the draft especially when the only veteran wide receivers they brought in were Tyrell Williams and Kalif Raymond. Detroit did that because they wanted to gear their offense to be extremely run-heavy. Detroit also has a Pro Bowl tight end in T.J. Hockenson that is capable of being the number one receiver in their offense.

After the first few weeks, it is clear that the Lions need to add more offensive firepower. They could look to replace Jared Goff. But it may be better to give Goff more weapons. He was at his best in that elite Rams offense during the 2018-19 season. Arkansas wide receiver Treylon Burks should be a target for Detroit with their second of their two first-round picks, and that’s the direction in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft. Burks is an extremely dynamic receiver that is capable of stretching the field and utilizing his size when trying to catch passes in traffic.

Putting Jared Goff behind this elite offensive line with Evan Neal and giving him weapons like T.J. Hockenson, Treylon Burks, Quintez Cephus, D’Andre Swift, and Jamaal Williams could remind people why the Rams took him first overall in 2016.
