2022 NFL Mock Draft: Matt Corral becomes the future in Atlanta
1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Kayvon Thibodeaux, Edge Rusher, Oregon
After extending their losing streak to 20 games the Jaguars find themselves with the first overall pick for the second straight season. New head coach Urban Meyer has learned in his first couple of games in the NFL that it is a lot harder to win at this level compared to in college. Jacksonville has a lot of needs across their roster. Jacksonville could use their first-round selection on the best player available and it will likely fill a need.
It appears that regardless of whoever lands the first overall pick there is a great chance the team takes Oregon pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux with the selection. Thibodeaux has been limited to two games this season because of an ankle injury. But his resume from the prior two seasons speaks for itself. His dominant play could result in him joining Jadeveon Clowney and Myles Garrett as the third pass rusher to be taken first overall since 2014.
Jacksonville has invested two first-round picks in edge rushers since 2019 in Josh Allen and K’Lavon Chaisson. The Jaguars would still take Thibodeaux if he is available when they pick not only because of his elite talent but because they have not been shy about replacing players added to this team by the previous regime. New general manager Trent Baalke and head coach Urban Meyer have already replaced C.J. Henderson with Tyson Campbell and attempted to replace James Robinson with Travis Etienne. Chaisson could very well be the next player added to that list considering he is already playing less than 50% of the snaps.
Thibodeaux could supplant the hybrid linebacker Chaisson in the lineup to create a potentially elite pass rush duo with Josh Allen. He would be a fantastic addition to one of the league’s worst defenses.
