Boise State WR Khalil Shakir should be moving up 2022 NFL Draft boards. He’s had a fantastic year.

Despite the perceived depth and belief in the talent of the 2022 NFL Draft class at wide receiver, there’s still something left to be desired at the top. Minus maybe Garrett Wilson, each of the others at the top has a question, whether it be separation, role, or ceiling. This could be where the belief in depth comes in, as there are some talented names making their way up the board right now. One of those is Boise State’s Khalil Shakir.

Shakir has had an excellent start to the season, and he’s caught 31 passes for 518 yards and four touchdowns in five games. Against Nevada, Shakir caught four passes for 70 yards and a score, including two excellent catches outside of his frame and in traffic. His ability to haul in spectacular catches through traffic is impressive, and it feels like he tops his best catch every week.

Adding that element to his game is a huge step for Shakir. He’s already a dynamo after the catch, with great flexibility and the ability to stop and change direction in an instant. Shakir also shows off good contact balance and can drop his pads to reduce surface area for defenders. He can win pre-catch as well, creating good initial separation off of his release.

Excelling in all three phases is a rare thing, and while he doesn’t possess the most burst or long speed, Khalil Shakir does so much well to be a difference maker on Sundays. It’s going to be interesting to see if he continues his tear through the Mountain West conference and hopefully get an invite to the Senior Bowl, where he can show off his talent in front of NFL teams and scouts. His stock is one that should be soaring right now for the 2022 NFL Draft.
