Round 3, 77th Overall: Garrett Williams, CB, Syracuse

Another main question for the Pittsburgh Steelers next offseason, one that gets swept under the rug because of the struggles on offense, is the secondary. Yes, Minkah Fitzpatrick is a star and Cam Sutton has flashed on the outside, but Joe Haden is set to hit free agency in the offseason. Ahkello Witherspoon and James Pierre don’t look like quality starters moving forward.

Garrett Williams isn’t being talked as much right now for the 2022 NFL Draft, but he will at some point, even in a deep corner class. He’s a feisty player with good transitions who can stay in receivers’ hip pockets when covering on a vertical plane. His timing at the catch point is very good as well.

Round 3, 97th Overall: Lecitus Smith, OL, Virginia Tech

Fixing the offensive line isn’t done just yet in this Steelers mock draft, and now the focus shifts to the interior. One option in this draft could be to select a true center and move Green back to guard where it’s more natural, but here they get a talented guard in Lecitus Smith.

Smith has great power at the point of attack, and has the anchor and strength to hold his ground against rushers who can covert speed to power. His explosion out of his stance helps him get to the second level effectively. He’d look good starting in year one at one of the guard spots.
