Pitt QB Kenny Pickett starting to open eyes for 2022 NFL Draft
Pittsburgh Panthers quarterback Kenny Pickett is starting to generate a little buzz for the 2022 NFL Draft.
The quarterback class for the 2022 NFL Draft is one that is anything but set in stone. With prospects like Spencer Rattler sitting in neutral, and others making a move, there’s still no telling what the class holds as the 2021 college football season moves into October. There could still be a riser waiting for their chance to shine in the national spotlight. One of those prospects starting to open eyes is Pittsburgh’s Kenny Pickett.
Pickett has lit the ACC on fire to this point, and ran it up on Georgia Tech Saturday, throwing for 389 yards and four touchdowns on 23 of 36 passing. He hit throws to all levels of the field, and put some juice on a few tight window throws, including a real nice second half strike to the end zone beyond the far hash. His confidence is sky high, he’s making some impressive throws off-platform, and he has the Pitt offense humming.
Pickett has taken a big leap this season, as the completion percentage has taken a significant jump. He’s completing over 71 percent of his passes and has thrown 15 touchdowns to just one interception. Now, the box score isn’t painting a full picture here, but it’s clear that confidence is a big reason for that jump on film.
There are of course still things for Pickett to work on, including some happy feet in the pocket when feeling pressure, but the jump he’s taking is undeniable right now.
As Pitt continues to work through ACC play, Kenny Pickett will have an opportunity to show out in two potential prime time games. The Panthers have both Clemson and North Carolina still to play, and with how Pickett is playing, eyes will be on him in those games. If he can deliver, Pickett is a name that fans and analysts will be more familiar with heading into the 2022 NFL Draft process.
