After a rookie campaign that had its ups and downs, Cowboys corner Trevon Diggs entered year two with high expectations. Many hoped that Diggs could make a leap in year two and help anchor a Dallas Cowboys secondary that had more holes than Camp Green Lake. Despite drafting a pair of corners this past April, Diggs would still be the number one guy in 2021.

It’s so far, so good for Diggs to this point in the season. Yes, it’s only three games, but his play speaks for itself. Diggs has three interceptions in three games in 2021, and added to his passes defensed total on Monday night as well. His interception of Jalen Hurts resulted in a score, and he played rookie Devonta Smith extremely tough at the catch point.

Trevon Diggs has always had the physical gifts for the position. His transition from corner to receiver has taken some time. At Alabama, Diggs flashed the incredible ball skills and had sufficient athleticism for the positions. His transitions were smooth and his experience at receiver gave him a clear picture on how receivers want to win.

All it took for Diggs to make the leap was to work on trusting his keys and instincts, and it’s clear that’s happened in 2021. He looked great against a talented Chargers receiver room, transitioning and driving hard on short and intermediate crossers while also finishing at the catch point. His straight line speed makes him a threat to close windows as soon as they open. It happened again against the Eagles, where he trusted a speed out was coming on a three step drop and made the play.

The combination of production and a step forward in terms of play has the Dallas Cowboys jumping for joy. Their secondary is in desperate of a playmaker to make things happen every week, and Trevon Diggs is becoming that guy: a lockdown corner who thrives in man coverage and at the catch point. Don’t be surprised if a Pro Bowl berth happens in 2021 for him if this keeps up.
