NFL Draft: Odafe Oweh, Jaycee Horn Rise In Week 2 Rookie Rankings
The 2021 NFL Draft class is having a great start to the season, and through two weeks, it’s hard to keep the rookie rankings to just 25 players. The quarterbacks took a bit of a step back this week, and several players on defense made moves, a couple vaulting themselves near the top of the rankings.
A rookie moved positions and had a great game, and the two top tackles put together another great week. It’s just another day at the office for these NFL Draft rookies, some of whom already look like seasoned vets. Without further ado, let’s quickly dive in to the rookie rankings after week two of the NFL season.
2021 NFL Draft Rookie Rankings: Post-Week Two
1. Rashawn Slater, OT, Chargers
Another dominant performance for Slater, albeit in a loss. He once again locked things down, showing a great anchor, hand placement, and footwork to keep rushers in front of him. He didn’t give an inch to the guy ranked fourth, and has only given up two pressures in two games.
2. Greg Newsome II, CB, Browns
Newsome looks like the best defensive player from the 2021 NFL Draft so far, and it’s his football IQ that’s standing out most. In addition to being skilled in coverage with efficient transitions and recognition, Newsome has been great filling against the run and working outside-inside to contain while looking to make the play.
3. Penei Sewell, OT, Lions
The incredible athleticism and footwork from Penei Sewell was on full display Monday night, and why he was one of the top NFL Draft prospects. He kept defenders in front of him with ease, and worked well getting out in space and to the second level. His development is moving quickly.
4. Micah Parsons, LB, Cowboys
He moved from linebacker to edge this week, and made the most of it. He mainly worked against a backup for the Chargers, but his first step explosion, change of direction skills, and ability to convert speed to power allowed him to pressure Justin Herbert all afternoon. Parsons rotating around the defense will be huge for Dallas going forward.
5. Odafe Oweh, DE, Ravens
The Ravens made a big move with the Chiefs before the NFL Draft began, and that helped them land Oweh in the first round. Oweh’s athleticism is fueling his traits, and he’s making big plays so far. His forced fumble against the Chiefs sealed the deal to get the Ravens back on track. The sky is the limit.
6. Jaycee Horn, CB, Panthers
Getting your first interception is a big deal, and Horn has been stellar so far in a Panthers defense that is flying around making plays. He’s staying physical and thriving in man coverage, and continues to be a force in run support. If not for Newsome, Horn would be in the top three.
7. Rondale Moore, WR, Cardinals
Moore’s injuries and size contributed to his NFL Draft slide, but Moore is rising quickly in the rookie rankings. He caught seven passes for 114 yards and a long touchdown against Minnesota. His speed and ability after the catch make him dangerous, and once he reaches his potential as a route runner, the Cardinals will be hard to stop.
8. Creed Humphrey, C, Chiefs
Part of the early success for the Chiefs revamp of the offensive line is due to Creed Humphrey’s play. He’s been impressive in pass protection and has flashed the athleticism and power to pave the way in the run game.
9. Ja’Marr Chase, WR, Bengals
Another week and another deep touchdown for Chase. This time against Chicago, Chase made a good late adjustment on a deep ball from Joe Burrow, and gained free ground with his release and stacked the defender with ease. Chase will continue to make things difficult for corners.
10. Josh Myers, C, Packers
It was a surprise to see the Packers take Myers over Humphrey in the NFL Draft, but it’s so far so good. Myers has looked in control and rock solid in both phases of the game. He’s recognizing and attacking stunts well in pass pro.
