Round 3, 68th Overall: Zonovan Knight, RB, North Carolina State

Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith will eventually build his offense around more zone running concepts, and he will need a lead back to take on the duty. It’s unlikely that Mike Davis becomes that guy for the long-term, and while Cordarrelle Patterson is a fun change of pace guy, he doesn’t bring enough to the table.

NC State running back Zonovan Knight could be the guy. Knight has two seasons of 700+ yards in the ACC, averaging 5.5 yards per carry. Already averaging over eight yards a tote so far in 2021, Knight could be one of the biggest risers for the 2022 NFL Draft with a strong season.

Knight has very good straight line speed for his size, and shows off great burst when he gets into space. His footwork is impressive and he stays creative at the line of scrimmage, getting skinny to reduce surface area. He has quick processing skills to go with his footwork, and can hit home runs in space. Knight often hangs his hat on contact balance, and work easily through arm tackles and shoestring attempts. He’s got a good stiff arm and is great at picking up extra yardage with good leg drive. A more productive season as a receiver would go a long way to proving he can be a three down stud and a great fit for the Atlanta Falcons in the 2022 NFL Draft.
